It is May people.
*Cue "Hallelujah" chorus*
Even though school gets out June 6th,
May signifies the END...
and the miracle that we've made it this far!
So once again- enjoy some teaching thoughts and moments from Mrs. Brame and company.
10.
April had no days off this year.
Zip. Zero. Zilch. Nada.
I thought for sure I would die.
But somehow... I managed to not use a SINGLE "sick" day all of April.
And I think it's quite an accomplishment.
Go me.
9.
"Mrs. Brame- I'm gonna be famous when I'm older!"
"Oh really? How?"
"I'm gonna find all the rich old men and marry them. Then you'll be seeing me on the news for being a 'professional gold digger'."
"How lovely!"
I don't remember seeing "professional gold digger" as an option in my 9th grade Careers class.
Maybe times have changed?

One day, my student forgot her clothes to dress out in for class.
I have a couple spare things in my office and told her to use some of those pants.
She walked into my office, held up the pants and yells out to me...
"Ms. B! I can't fit into these things! Maybe last year I could, but I done got big! Don't eat at McDonald's Ms. B... this is what will happen to you."
That was probably the most sensible advice I've ever received from a student!
7.
I have a girl in 1st period who swears up a storm.
It just flows out of her mouth and she doesn't think about it and she doesn't catch it.
I get after her all the time.
One day, after hearing her use the F-word... she tried to convince me that it's ok to use that word.
"Mrs. Brame! The F-word actually has scientific meaning so it's ok to use that word!"
"Oh does it? And are you using it scientifically when you curse?"
*awkward sheepish silence*
"No.... you got me."
Girls- cursing is not "curt".
(for reference on putting random "r" sounds in words that don't have them... refer to this post
here)
6.
I can't believe I've made it two years of teaching at this school and ONLY have one Beyonce song in my music library.
Go me.

5.
There are lots of times when I just shake my head at my students...
When they talk about getting pregnant, like it's a pastime to do on the weekends.
I shake my head.
When I find a nasty weave on top of the paper towel dispenser..
I shake my head.
4.
Spring Show, Spring Show, Spring Show!
It's over!
*breathe*
My classes performed Thursday, Friday and Saturday...
no one told me that getting 100 Dance 1 students in front of 600 people would be so hard!
BUT we had no crying on stage and no major melt downs.
It was definitely a success.
Here are some clips from our dances...
These are Dance class students that performed Saturday night...
These are Dance students that wanted to stay extra after school and learn another dance. One of the girls backed out last minute... and instead of re-arranging the whole dance, I just danced in her place!
(the one girl in green pants wasn't supposed to do the fouette turns... but she did them anyway. The punk)
These are the Juniors from the Drill Team...
I choreographed this African dance for them.
3.
We'd been talking about Spring Show everyday for the past four months and I got this comment on Thursday... the night of one of our shows...
"Spring Show is TODAY?!?! How come you never told me?"
A part of me wanted to die.
A part of me wanted to cry.
A part of me wanted to strangle someone.
Luckily, neither three happened...
Earlier that same day-
one of my students came up to me and said this:
"Mrs. Brame- I can't be in Spring Show tonight because I am getting my hair done."
"You've known about Spring Show for HOW long and you chose TODAY TO GET YOUR HAIR DONE?!?! Tell you mom to re-schedule your appointment. Spring Show is a part of your final."
"I can't. My mom already said no."
"Why do you have to get your hair done today?"
"It's for Prom..."
"And when is Prom?"
"In two weeks."
A part of me wanted to die.
A part of me wanted to cry.
A part of me wanted to strangle someone.
Luckily, neither three happened.
Instead...
I shook my head.
2.
It's no lie that I wear my hear up in a ponytail or bun everyday.
I probably look frumpy but it's ok.
On our Saturday Spring Show night I showed up with my hair down and in normal clothes.
My students didn't know who I was.
BUT my favorite comment was this...
"Mrs. Brame- you done get weave in your hair?"
And she proceeded to come tug on my hair to see if it would come out.
Ridiculous.
1.
"Yeah... I used to do cheer-leading... but then I found hot dogs."
Best quote ever.
18 school days left my friends!!
