Thirty Days Hath September...

I signed up to take the GRE.
That's right- I have this crazy idea that I want to go back to school.
Each night, I get a math tutorial from Jon... which usually ends up in tears and frustration.
(Jon of course is the one crying...)
I don't think I've taken a college math class since 2004.
Yeah- it's bad.

Enter blogging break.
Something that requires minimal brain cells, perfect!

September has been good to us.
I mean- how could life NOT be good with this guy around?
September brought a fair share of pool parties-
because yes, it's still quite warm.
It started with Labor Day and cousins.
I think Mondays should ALWAYS be a holiday.
Seminary pool party!
Pool party with our clogging family!
Pool with friends at a resort north of Houston!
September brought lots of free food...
September brought Friday night lights and football, football, football!
September brought time with friends...
September brought fun with the youth at our church!
AND September brought cooler weather.
Psych!
Fooled you.
Until then- we burn the pumpkin candle and pretend like it's Fall.
Goodbye September!

Top 10 is Back!

I've been a slacker!
A month of school has gone by and I'm barely getting to my Top 10... even though a lot of these came in the first week of school.
Better late than never.
Here are 10 things that left me smiling... or shaking my head.

10.
Students who were SO lazy and HATED me last year, keep stopping by my classroom to say "Hi" and then then ask how they can get back into dance class....?
Not a chance.
I'm still twitching from last year!
But can someone explain this phenonmenon?
Why do students that hated me want me back?
Carry on and harrass some other poor teacher.
Shaking my head.

9.
First day of class, student pulls me aside.
"Um, Miss- there is something you should know."
"Ok..."
"I'm a really good dancer. I mean REALLY good."
....
Continues to stare at me akwardly, and runs away.
Made me smile.

8.
My puppy dog is back.
She followed me around everywhere last year asking me what I was doing and telling outlandish stories.
"Mrs. Brame- whatcha doin? That's nice. I went to Corpus Christi this weekend. I fixed my surfboard. Do you have a surfboard? What are we doing today? Why? That's nice. My boyfriend broke down in the mud yesterday and lifted it up by himself. What are you doing now? How come? That's nice. My baby is 3 months old and already walking. Are we dancing today? What about this?"
I'm tellin' ya...
I am going to develop a twitch.
Shaking my head.

7.
We start with ballet each year in hopes of weeding out the girls who want to learn how to twerk at the club.
Unfortunately for you, you probably know what "twerking" is now, thanks to Miley Cyrus.
So during our ballet unit, we watched this clip of "Swan Lake"...
"Umm... Mrs. Brame- that's not dancing!"
"Excuse me?"
"All they're doing is moving their feet and bouncing around!"
Sometimes Dance 1 students need to be smacked upside the head...
Shaking my head.

6.
I have a picture of Jon in my office...
Enter student.
"AWWWWWE! Is that your HUSBAND?!?!?!?!"
"Yes..."
"Well he looks like that famous actress!"
"Did you know an actress is a girl?"
*head tilt*
"Wha?"
Shaking my head.

5.
I use my iPhone as an iPod for school and am actually quite surprised it's never been stolen!
Students get their phones stolen ALL the time, and I've definitely left mine sitting out before...
but thankfully it's never been taken.
However, I do occassionally find pictures like this on it...
Makes me smile, everytime.

4.
"Mizz Ba-raaaammme! You need to have a baby before I graduate!"
"You're a senior..."
"So?"
"How long does it take to grow a baby?"
"9 months"
"And we have how many months left of school?"
"Well... just make it work Mizz Brame."
Shaking my head.

3.
"Mizz B, I'm going shopping this weekend!"
"Oh really? What are you gonna buy?"
Stares at me like I'm dumb.
"Mizz B- I'm black."
"Ok..."
"Us black girls buy hair."
Made me smile.

2.
We just moved onto our Jazz unit...
first day of Jazz:
"Where do you think Jazz dance comes from?"
"Oh, oh, oh! I know! Italy?!"
"No- France!"
"It comes from Michael Jackson! He was french!"
Shakin' my head...

1.
Sometimes... when students have an accent... and they spell things out phonetically... it turns out like this.
I am pretty positive she meant "worksheet"...
Made me smile.

This Little Brother of Ours...

came to visit this past weekend!
Visitors are great to have-
anyone else wanna come visit hot, humid Houston?
Hmm... no one?
That's weird.
This is Spencer, Jon's little brother- and I think the humidity was a shock for him.
We headed down to the beach, amidst the rain and dark clouds.
 Bros
Even though it sprinkled off and on- we had some good times boogie boarding!
We cheered on our Cougars to victory!
We found some alligators...

And we ended with some Texas BBQ!
 Mmmmmmm...
Let's dig in!
